FHDC Office Renovation
Capacity building and increased efficiency for FHDC

Established in 1990, FHDC has developed almost 200 housing units, as well as the Cipriano Ferrel Education Center, and has won recognition for a unique approach to property management that includes the residents of the properties. FHCS has experienced rapid growth in the last two years, virtually doubling the population it serves with an expansion of affordable housing projects to Salem and Independence. These projects now house approximately 900-1000 residents, and FHDC is proud to offer safe, healthy and community-integrated homes to the area’s farmworker population. In order to continue their services as an organization—developing more farmworker homes, expanding our resident services, and strengthening their property management and resident leadership programs—FHDC is working on the renovation of its Woodburn office building. This renovation will address the expansion of the organization, and will work to create a more efficient and functional base from which it can offer services to the community.
This renovation is Jessy’s first project as a Rose Fellow, and has proved to be a great introduction to the organization and FHDC’s role within the farmworker community. Under the supervision of Carleton Hart Architects in Portland, Jessy is acting as designer and project manager. She is focused on improved energy-efficiency and indoor air quality for the project’s green components, and is currently working on securing a Capacity Building Grant through Enterprise to help with the funding.
