Habitat Duplexes at Fox Farm Village
Downtown Living - Single-Family Affordability
“The Habit for Humanity homes built in Fox Farm village in Bayfield are some of the most attractive in our area. Perhaps more important than the quality aesthetic design is the incorporation of green-building features that make these homes as affordable to live in as they are affordable to purchase. These homes are not only a great example of what affordable housing can look like but also a model for the kinds of new energy design that should be a part of all our new housing.”
— Justin Clifton, Bayfield Town Manager
The Habitat for Humanity project at Fox Farm Village consists of eight units, (four duplexes), targeted to first-time homebuyers at roughly 80% of AMI. These units are located within the 48-unit Fox Farm Village subdivision — an affordable housing development within sight and walking distance of downtown Bayfield, CO.
Habitat for Humanity partnered with the Regional Housing Alliance (RHA) to pursue Green Communities certification for this project. Rose Fellow Ophelia Wilkins worked with Habitat staff to create passive solar designs and introduce construction methods, specifications, and local suppliers that will raise the standard of Habitat homes from here forward.
Now that Habitat has made a commitment to building green, they have received media attention from the Durango Telegraph, a free weekly paper, in an article entitled “Habitat Goes Green,” and other local non-profits are following suit. Most significantly, the Town of Bayfield is discovering what their community stands to gain by holding the remaining 32 un-built lots at Fox Farm Village to the same high standards of design and construction.
