Join the Fellowship
Application Process
Creating a new fellowship position is a two-step process.
Enterprise Community Partners invites a local community development corporation or other community-based organization to partner with and serve as a host for a fellow. In areas with multiple potential partner hosts, Enterprise may initiate a competitive process to select the host organization. The selected host organization and Enterprise then negotiate a work plan for the fellowship.
It is expected that the majority of a fellow’s time will be spent on detailed design work and oversight of specific construction projects. A fellow’s portfolio may also include community planning work, project feasibility studies, project budgeting, financial management, and assembling of project funds.
Typically in February of each year, Enterprise invites interested aspiring architects to apply for one of several fellowship openings with designated hosts (see Current Opportunities). The Application Kit provides information about the host’s needs and resources, enabling applicants to address the issues raised by the proposed work plan. As part of the application process, an applicant may suggest changes to the work plan.
Based on an initial review of the applications, Enterprise selects finalists for interview. A Selection Committee comprised of prominent leaders in the fields of architecture, community development, and urban design then choses the fellow from among these finalists. Selection of fellows usually occurs before July 1 of each year. New fellowships begin on September 1.
