Fellow Profile

Andy Schneggenburger

“During the Fellowship, I learned first-hand the value of partnerships... from development partnerships that ensure projects are designed and built to maximize their potential for neighborhood revitalization, to public/private partnerships that bring funding options and development perspectives together, to partnerships with grassroots organizations that help give communities their voice.”

— Andy Schneggenburger

Fellowship Host:
The Historic District Development Corporation
Atlanta, GA

Andy Schneggenburger’s tenure with The Historic District Development Corporation (HDDC) involved him in the design and construction of two modular single-family houses in the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic District; the design of a third modular home created to act as a model for future houses; and the design and historic rehabilitation of two houses in the same district. Andy also served on the owner representation team during construction of a mixed-use, mixed-income, 271-unit apartment development.

With support from his peers in the Fellowship, Andy helped HDDC develop a greater understanding of environmental construction practices and of techniques for meeting the demanding requirements of the historic register. In addition, the Enterprise office in Atlanta provided financing for acquisition and construction of the modular home project, tax-credit consultation for the mixed-use development and continual advice and support throughout the Fellowship.

After completing his Fellowship, Andy accepted the position of executive director of the Atlanta Housing Association of Neighborhood-Based Developers. Andy holds a B.S. in Architecture from the University of Michigan and a master’s in Architecture from Georgia Institute of Technology.
